TWENTY – FIVE YEARS AGO

The coming of Spring ushered in the TORNADO SEASON. One twister still remembered for its shattering fury, ravaged Metropolis, Illinois with whirlwind speed. On the 20th Anniversary of the opening of UNIVERSAL CITY STUDIOS, a host of old-timers lined up to congratulate movie pioneer, Carl Laemmle. GADGETEERS were very active a quarter of a century back, although not very successful. A combination revolver and movie camera: a fire alarm box with cunning automatic manacles for the unwary; and a nifty idea for sailboats intended to make sails obsolete were a few inventions that bit the dust. A new salt water record was set by GAR WOOD with his Miss American Tenth.
