2nd Div Training In 3rd (Bourmont) Area w/French 2nd Army

The 2nd Infantry Division, known as the “Indian Head” Division, was organized October 26, 1917 at Bourmont, Haute Marne, France. At the time of its activation, the 2nd Division was composed of existing Army and Marine units of the A.E.F. (American Expeditionary Forces) which included the 4th Marine Brigade, 5th Marine Regiment. The division spent the winter of 1917-1918 training with French veterans in the Bourmont training area.
