After nearly three months of heavy fighting the soldiers of the U.S. 7th Infantry Division began capturing large numbers of Japanese prisoners for the first time in the war due to low morale, high casualties, and lack of supplies. Shows group of Japanese POWs under guard. U.S. soldier searches three Japanese soldiers that had surrendered. Japanese soldiers making their way up rocky volcanic slope with hands raised in surrender. Japanese prisoners are searched. Japanese soldier
